This summer kids, adults and entire communities across the country are working to bring access to education to developing countries – and to meet their idol, Justin Bieber.
Through Schools4All.org, a fundraising campaign championed by Summiteer Adam Braun and his organization Pencils of Promise (PoP), any interested group or individual can raise funds online that go to the building of schools internationally. The incentive? Justin Bieber personally visits the school of the participant(s) with the most funds raised.
With 127 million+ young adults still illiterate worldwide (UNESCO Institute for Statistics), Braun says, “We’ve learned that education is a living, breathing entity that with the right nurturing, evolves into something spectacular. We’ve learned that every piece of its growth is a challenge and that each pencil, each dollar, each volunteer is essential.”
On the ground, PoP works from the bottom up, finding and working with communities which don’t just need a school, but are also invested in creating a successful one. Stateside, the organization has lead a shift in how non-profits cultivate community and empower cause ambassadors through social media. Each week PoP invites fans and supporters into their office virtually and hosts roundtable discussions about initiatives like Schools4All.org.
